35.4 x 26.4 cm and a thickness that goes from 2.26 cm in its thinnest part to exceeding 3 cm (3.04) in the thickest part. To this we add a weight of 2.5 KG of the laptop plus its 240W adapter and we have a “lifetime” gaming laptop, where lightness or saving space is secondary.
We are not saying this as a criticism, after all, if we want uncompromising performance it is better to have a laptop with a superior cooling capacity and not have to deal with CPU or graphics power limitations.
The design combines two shades of gray on the metal casing, with a lighter one covering the entire area, and a darker one on the logo, diagonal stripe and other decorative elements. The large opening at the back stands out to let air out of the cooling systems.
By having this area occupied, physical connectivity passes to the sides. Starting on the left side, in addition to another air outlet, we have the traditional power connector (still no 240W USB-C), a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet RJ45 port, an HDMI 2.1 and two USB-C, one of them 3.1 (3.2 Gen 2 10 Gbps) and another with Thunderbolt 4 40 Gbps. This area ends with a small 3.5 mm audio minijack for microphone and headphones.
If we go to the right side we see that the space is quite wasted: Two USB-A 3.1 (3.2 gen 2 10 Gbps) are the only available ports that accompany the other air outlet. Here there would be space for an extra port or, for example, a small card reader.
In any case, we can see that the thickness of the equipment is not exactly thin, nor does it pretend to be.
The gray color with darker touches remains inside, where what is most striking is the 16-inch screen in 16:10 format without frames and with a matte coating. Here the space has been used to the maximum and, although we have a 16″ screen, the truth is that the size of the equipment is equivalent to laptops of 15″ or less from a few years ago.
Here we lose the metal and have a less “premium” plastic casing.
The screen has a small HD webcam at the top, perhaps at this point the minimum should be FHD, but at least we can give ourselves a bite because ASUS is once again integrating webcams into its entire range of ROG laptops. It’s enough for a specific conference.
The keyboard stands out for the good touch of the keys, the travel is very wide and it is noticeable before looking closely at the specifications. ASUS promises 2mm key travel, one of the highest we’ve seen on membrane keyboards. In addition, the ASUS over stroke system detects pulsations at the beginning of the stroke. Each keycap has a depth of 0.25 mm so as not to interfere with travel.
The touchpad also stands out, it has a very large size and a very pleasant touch thanks to a glass coating.
We cannot finish this section without remembering the RGB stripe on the edge, it is synchronized with the AURA system that also controls the key lighting.

The screen of the ASUS ROG STRIX G16 2024 has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels in 16:10 format with 240 HZ refresh rate. It is a good resolution that allows us to go beyond the typical Full HD, although it demands more from the graphics.
The coating is matte and the integration into the device is adjusted to the millimeter, with very thin frames above and on the sides, and somewhat bulkier below.

The brightness is quite good, we can reach 430 nits in white, and the matte coating helps eliminate reflections that may bother in bright areas.
With HDR in small areas of the screen we have managed to measure brightness of 440 nits.

The color coverage stands out for covering the entire sRGB and DCI-P3 ranges, taking into account the deviations of the measurement tools. The coverage of the Adobe-RGB range remains close to 90%, meaning that, overall, we have excellent coverage that is more than enough for gaming and even some content creation tasks.
We have an average real delta E of 3.91 points in absolute values, with maximums of 8.63 points in some color. The standard calibration tends slightly towards somewhat bluish tones, but with the good color coverage it has, it is not difficult to improve these values with a quick calibration.
Color Tests vs SRGB – Factory Screen
Autonomy
This type of equipment, with high-consumption processors and graphics, is not particularly blessed with the autonomy they offer. There has been no surprise in the tests, with the brightness at maximum and the balanced energy plan, we have achieved exactly 3 hours of autonomy. By lowering the brightness and setting more aggressive modes with energy saving, we can use it to browse for just over 4 hours, but it is not its strong suit. Of course, even with a battery, the performance it offers is considerable.
Performance – Benchmarks
We have already tested the Core i9-14900HX several times and the RTX 4070 many more. The first is a “Raptor Lake Refresh” processor, a small update compared to Raptor Lake. It offers a total of 9 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores, with maximum speeds of 5.8 and 4.1 GHz respectively.
On the other hand, the RTX 4070 works on this device without limitations in its TGP, with 140W with Boost that it is capable of reaching.
Although the relationship between consumption and TDP is not direct, it does allow us to get an idea of the consumption that a device with these characteristics may have. We have seen the Core i9-14900HX exceed 180W of peak Boost, maintaining 150W without problems, while the RTX 4070 can reach 140W, adding it up we have 320W of TDP between those two components, not counting screen, motherboard, SSD, RAM, etc.
The ROG Strix G16 2024 charger is 280 W, and if we analyze some results we can see that there is a performance penalty that is noticeable in those cases where high CPU and GPU power loads are required. For example, in the super resolution tests we can see that brute force tests where DLSS/FSR/XeSS is not used, the device chokes and is not able to generate more than a few FPS. However, the performance when the SR is activated offers normal values.
The same thing happens in some game tests where both the CPU and the GPU are important at the same time, while others that depend more on the CPU or GPU separately show normal values.
In general, the ASUS ROG Strix G16 2024 is a laptop that is capable of playing demanding titles in FullHD, in 2K we will have to lower the quality or rely on the DLSS/FSR/XeSS on duty. In 4K the RTX 4070 can struggle, especially in games that require maximum CPU and GPU performance.
There is a bit of an imbalance between the GPU and the CPU. We have one of the most powerful processors on the market, but the graphics are somewhat far from the high ranges. It is true that the price is not the same as what we would have with an RTX 4090, but perhaps with a Core i7 14700 the equipment would have a better balance.

The G16’s cooling system is quite noisy at maximum power, but in exchange it prevents the keyboard and the upper area from heating up. We have very cool and comfortable temperatures (ambient temperature of 23ºC) where the maximum temperatures do not reach 35ºC.

It offers a 16″ screen with good features, with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 at 240 Hz and G-SYNC, and excellent color coverage. The keyboard also stands out for its good key stroke and the overall design is neat, although metal gives way to plastic in the internal casing.
There are quite a few connectivity options, including a Thunderbolt 4, but it is true that the right side could be used a little more to add a card reader, for example. Its autonomy is not its strong point either, but it is not a range of equipment from which we can ask for high battery life.
Opting for a design that combines metal with plastic, along with an RTX 4070, allows this ASUS ROG STRIX G16 (2024) G614JIR-N4004 not to skyrocket its price and stay around 2,399 euros. However, there we have the Intel Core i9-14900HX, one of the most powerful processors in the world. We therefore have a certain imbalance between the CPU and the GPU, perhaps a solution with a Core i7-14700HX would give us a more balanced and cheaper solution.
In any case, there is no doubt that this laptop will delight those looking for maximum processor performance, along with a 140W RTX 4070 that can seamlessly move FullHD games with high graphic quality, and even with 2K resolution, using DLSS/FSR/XeSS we will not have problems.

Hey everyone, I want to share with you my experience with the Asus G16 laptop, which I purchased just two weeks ago. Although the performance of this laptop has been exceptional, I have encountered a frustrating issue with its AC charger, which has affected my overall experience.
